I guess the title is not as important as exactly happened. I mean the word “Finally”. You know that word is usually used whenever we encounter hard times and difficulties upon certain thing. And when all those difficulties overthrown, you will say “Finally…” This afternoon I installed WordPress CMS on my home computer after Dedex put them previously inside the office’s computer. I interested to WordPress since I used the free version blogging service on WordPress.com

The first thing I do was installing the Appserv in my computer which serves as the localhost for the dynamic pages of WordPress. The process got a little crashed since I’ve installed the previous version in this computer, so when I type “http://localhost/” on the address bar, the browser still viewed the 2.0.4 version of Apache, not the 2.5.7

But, there was no longer problem when I uninstalled the older version and restarted the computer.

The next thing was setting up the database which I did with accessing the PHPmyadmin through the browser. Again there was a little hassle, when I tried to login. I flipped over when entering characters between the user name and password field.

After all the hassling events and couple of calls to Dedex, the WordPress CMS has been installed successfully. I wrote 2 example posts within and with the Smashing template, I found the result as gorgeus. Hmm.. how nice if it was truly uploaded to a real server.

So, daniy, have you considered to buy yourself a private domain?

 

Living in a world of blogosphere means that a blogger lives on a great network of written ideas and thoughts. Each blogger have their own ideas and put them into blogs with different ways. What I’m talking here is not about the technical blogging platform whether it’s WordPress, Blogger, Typepad, or else, but it’s more to how blogger expressed their ideas into words.

At some point, a blogger may found the same field of interest with other blogger say in his blog. And so the blogs, it provided a magnificent feature called comment. Any bloggers could have dropped themselves on a blog and for the same time could make a little note on the corresponding post which described their personal opinion. Whether it’s an agreeable or disagreeable comment, the opinion crafted a unique social network and provide encouraging state for any bloggers to develop their blogging ability.

But, the blogosphere is only still a medium which has it’s own way of life. I mean ethics. Every one can put any comment over somenone’s blog (if the blogmaster open the comment facility) but I surely say that not every comment would accepted with the blogmaster. There are unwritten rules on how to interact upon someone’s blog comment box. Everyone should obey the rules, or any of their comments would ended up on the trash bin.

Yesterday, Muhammad Saleem wrote a good article on Problogger about how to become a comment leader. And here I quoted most of his post at Darren Rowse’s blog as follows. He wrote 3 basic principles of commenting on blogs:

1. Be yourself, Not Your Brand
When you leave a comment, make sure that your identity comes across. Don’t be your blog, be the author. People want to interact with other people that genuinely share their interests, and by being yourself you instantly become more accessible. Inject your comments with your own unique voice and leverage your own unique set of experiences to make your point.

2. Create Value, Not A Pitch
A comment is useless unless it creates value for the audience. You can choose to provide more examples or counterexamples and further the conversation but don’t write one or two word comments simply agreeing or disagreeing with people. Creating value also means contributing selflessly (i.e. don’t advertise your blog and don’t use excessive signage).

3. Engage, Don’t Attack
Remember, nobody likes a troll or a flamer. When leaving a comment, don’t just engage the author, but engage the entire audience. This doesn’t mean that you can’t disagree with what is being said, it just means that you should be civil and disagree with what is being said, not who is saying it. Don’t forget to provide evidence for your side of the argument.

And so on, he wrote the whole explanation.

Fact of the matter is that a majority of the content that is created on blogs such as this one is based on people’s own experiences and is not set in stone. As such, the information being discussed is subjective and therefore there can be multiple solutions or ways of approaching the same problem (and most of the time there are relatively few wrong answers). When this is the case, and when most of the audience is trying to determine what the right answer is, they do two things:

1. People go to high-authority blogs to see what the author has to say.

2. When people are uncertain, they look towards others in the audience for help.

This help can come in the way of an affirmation of what the high-authority author is saying, or a rejection of the idea in favor of a different position. By speaking first, you can establish your influence and have a visible effect on the course the rest of the conversation takes. This is important because there is strong evidence suggesting that the order in which people speak is incredibly important in determining the impact that their opinion has.

This doesn’t mean that you start going to other blogs and commenting just so you can be first. What this means is that if you think that you’re voice is getting lost in the crowd, or that you have a strong opinion that needs to be heard, it’s time that you stepped up to the plate and spoke out first. The point of your comments doesn’t have to be to prove you right, but to make your side of the argument heard before the community decides what is right or wrong.

I think it’s quite hip enough. As information, in Indonesian blogosphere there’s a common word which usually found on the first comments on popular blogs: “pertamaxxx…”
In popular blogs, comments usually reached more than 30 in a few minutes after the article is posted. It’s a kind of race of think since the word represents the commentator as the first person who say a comment on that popular blog.

It’s nice to be first, but it’s more important to be noticed.

I always said that creating a good result for your blog’s SERP is by creating the good content for it. Bear in mind that your visitors are true persons which are looking for some informations within yor site. So, why don’t you try to give them as best as you can? There’s nothing to lose whenever your visitor can give you more benefits than you may think.

And a good content started with a good title. You know, putting an interesting and appealing title could drive your pre-visitor right-down to the blog. They may have read your blog title somewhere on the social bookmarking sites. As they put their attention on such appealing phrase, there’s a great chance that they would clikc on the link.

But, good titles not also interesting for humans. Slurp and Googlebots put a tremendous amount of importance on title tags or what we use to know as permanent links. Have you ever imagine for being a search engine spiders? Since you are a bunch of machine codes, then all you can see and collect is what are written in blogs and websites. If I (the spiderbots) found a category named “cellular phone” then I would easily to write them down in my database as a cellular phone articles. If you don’t tell me what the page is all about, then I’m not going to know where to catalog your post in the SERP and maybe leave the result indifferent.

And for the first time, you should check for what your page is all about by leaving clues on in the source code. The following examples will help you how to understand how to form a good and pleasant informations for spiderbots to index your pages more effectively.

The way you optimize the post permalink is by changing the post slug. WordPress automatically defaults to using the title of your post as the permalink, you can override that by changing the post slug to whatever you want.

The year 2008 has been rolling for 3 days for the present. As I blogwalked through the blogosphere, this year’s wish list is the ultimate post in most blogs I visited. They’re online business players, so most wish circles around 2008’s earning increase opportunity.

Prediction among online marketing programs such as Google Adsense, Widgetbucks, Parked, Amazon Affiliate, CJ, and some PTR/PTC are burned highly through feeds spreading the words to thousands of its subscribers.

But, as well as the prediction, everyone doesn’t have same opinions about the same thing. Some publishers which drew disappointment from ‘banned-love-letters’ [such as Adsense] would say that the program should no longer being hope for any other publisher. In fact, Google had recently changed some of the ‘role-play’ for publishers which affected [read: decreased] the publisher’s earning itself. A friend of mine who’s also a blogger said “The golden era of Adsense has a long way gone” since Google applied their new click area. Drastically he lost about more than 50% of his monthly income.

Some of them [including me] are optimist person about this Google popular money-maker. An assumption which I bear my mind is the number of internet user that grows more and more. I can make a little statistical data which tells every 10 person I know, 8 of them knows about internet; only 4 among them are friendly enough to it. Most of the 4 person uses internet to dig information to write their assignment by searching through Google and make friends on Friendster. Only some of them know about how to run business based on internet and how to make money from it.

Another thing which encourages me to put my future income within online opportunities is the number of the advertisers itself. Did I say the number of non-internet user in the recent paragraph? So, the number includes the person who has their settled business in the real world, but hasn’t known yet about how online advertising can support their products popularity. In future years, these numbers of person are potential online advertiser as soon as they introduced to the magic of homepage. Of course, the number shall grow.

The One but Not the Only One
An old proverb “never put the eggs in one basket” exactly goes as well as Adsense is not the only game in town. In fact there are several programs which brought more money to several popular internet marketers. Give a name for Shoemoney who earned almost US$ 700,000 last time from CJ, or John Chow who generates more than US$ 25,000 which Adsense only took part less than 30% from the overall revenue.

Also there is more redundancy about Adsense program since its pay-per-click based is more likely to abuse by its publisher. Some time, Adsense would end up to history, and new program are mushrooming the net. Among all online earnings, affiliate programs are the ‘toughest’ will lasts.

But, since I tried to blog with bucks as the main purpose, well, I think Google Adsense is the most proper for me to apply. I’ve registered to this program since a year ago, but haven’t seriously put my mind, time, and efforts to my blogs.

And the resolution for this year is: I have to quit my ordinary job at least at the end of December. Gosh, how I want to live my life from home..

Last morning I woke up at 4.30 and couldn’t continue sleep then. After took the pray , I turned the computer on, publish the internet connection, and started to post on some blog sites which I have. Not some enough, because I only have two.

Post, post, and post . Those four characters word have been the part of my daily life for the least a month. Well, since the AdSense issue became the main focus of my long-term future planned project, keeping the blogs being updated regularly is the term of must. Initially, I’m a starter from being an internet guy, thus I haven’t already familiar with scripts and codes, nor the site optimization for search engines. So, the most possible ways to optimize the blogs is by enhancing the quantity and quality of the posts.

The clock had shown 12.50 am by the time I post this writing. My head is quite dizzy. A lack of sleep I thought. From the previous day. I’ve lost for 2-3 hours of my bedtime each day in order to keep the blogs updated with posts. But that’s OK.

It’s a sacrifice, but that’s how it works.

PS: Today I read one of my messages in my google mail inbox. Someone has proposed me to do some business which related with what I’ve done with blogging. Hmm.. For the previous days, I always thought that WordPress.com didn’t support any business affairs on their blogs. So, I signed up to WP.com for not a profitable reason. I just want to write. Not for money.
But then, this WordPress blog had brought me something that I haven’t expected.

Gosh… The word says,”just do it”..
It’s true.

It is the sixth day since I started the first post, and guess what.. The old days enemy has return back. “The Laziness”, that’s what I used to call it. I’m sure that every one of should had ever met him. He usually comes after few days we start a brand new idea. By  its strength and also our weakness, we can just stop to provide our blog with contents. Say it,“I’m kinda unwell today. Let’s just update it for tomorrow”. The next day,“I’m working a lot of stuff right now, and it seem I haven’t enough time to work on contents”. The next day, we keep stumbling on another excuse. And as the time goes, at some point we realize, we have left our blog abandoned.

The first day I wrote the post, I had a will that I should fill the blog everyday. Every single day. Just to take care of what I’ve had and preserve it. You know, search engines loves the blogs that always update. New fresh things. Fresh ideas. Of course with another optimization stuffs. Thus, the most simple idea to keep your blog indexed by the search engines is keep posting as often as possible.

I read a book about how to make money from writing articles. Simply, the book do not preach about how you do the writing, the techniques, the punctuation marks, and tons of things that are practical. But, it’s about how eager are you to preserve the will to write. The whole book tells about commitment building.

On one section, I found “The Laziness” was explained. The characteristics and the way to overture it. “The Laziness” can be described as a state of a child which is free, spoil, and uncontrollable but, also can be tamed. Remember, children get to their enthusiasm whenever offered with candies and toys, and then it’s so easy to them to ask for taking bitter medicine, or cleanup their own bedroom.

We can treat “The Laziness” just as we treat a child. Try to set up with ease when we started to get bored about writing. Turn on the computer while saying to ourself that we’re going to have a word games. I’m gonna type everything which comes instantly inside my head. Usually, it works. On the previous day, I started to type about coffee, sugar, and water, and a little about my activity in the morning. In the middle of the games, I found another idea about how I should end the post.  The result? I think it’s good enough to read.

But, how if it doesn’t worked? How if I’ve tried to type jumbling words, but in the middle I still couldn’t solve about what should I end this writing?

Well, success doesn’t come anytime we want, buddy. Sometimes we failed. In a matter of stuck moment, we can just type in our editor: “Today I failed to write. I’ve tried to type anything and every words that came up in my head, but it jut didn’t made up a good post which I wanted. Maybe I can try it for the next day. Maybe I’m just unlucky.”

There we go! We had just posted a paragraph. One paragraph of failed-to-write confession has provide us a real paragraph. And we post it. That means we’re not failed at all for the day. See..

I know that blogging is not about a clap of hands nor just swing of the witchcraft’s wands. Bloggers are professionals. Professionals holds commitment. No matter the result: succeed or not, blogging is just a process.
Talking about writing and blogging, Daniel told me about his long-term blogging strategy in his blog. I think it’s worth for you to read.

It’s been a long time since I post the content to my WordPress account. But now there is a new feature which WordPress offer to all its users by default. Not a brand new feature actually, because I already found this ’snapshot utility’ feature for several months ago from my friends computer. I found it as ‘Cooliris’ and installed to the browser. But WordPress seems to have it better installed it on its site. This would allow a user to use the utility as if he had it installed on its browser.

I catch the main idea of this feature which help users to peek the preview of a link inside a website. At first, I found it useful because we can decide whether the site which links to the current page is useful or not, or having bad links which would get you on 404 page error. My friend’s computer had a fast internet connection, so I didn’t experienced any trouble.

And then I found it a little annoying when I used my own internet connection. You know, the feature would automatically pop up a box above the link where we point our pointer. Deliberately or not. It is my habit for putting up the pointer for a while and took a sight on my left lower browser to notice the actual address of the link. But then the ’snapshot’ came out and put itself on another content which occupy one eight of the screen. And it wasn’t disappeared instantly as I hover out my pointer from the link. The snapshot stands still for a few seconds. And then I say,”It sucks”. I need to read the content and not expect to have an object float above the text I read.

So, now I turned off the feature of my own on the ‘extra’ menu, Uncheck the feature’s box, so I guarantee you to read my blog freely without being annoyed by floating object.

I’ve been blogging since 2006, but then came into its eagerness in the past two months. I had my first blog on blogspot where I spent every of my thoughts in Indonesian. Well, if you visit the link, you might had a little number of archives which vary on a broad time of posts. By then, you can conclude that I’m not an active blogger, if were I’m saying “I am a blogger”.

Previously, I had my blog on WordPress which posts about diseases. But, it doesn’t make my content updating eagerness to occur, since I’m not a physician, and generate the contents from another source. Just say it unfair.

Now, I want to be honest to myself. To write anything on my own mind by my own way. Especially in English. For any information, I live in a country which not an English based language as its daily way of communicate.

This blog is my thoughts in English. Maybe I can post here and make the other language version on my other blog. I think it’s fair enough, since I’m not going to abandon my previous private blog.

I’ve heard about the magic of WordPress which usually called “tag”. Some say, no need to have a high skill of SEO to make your pages indexed by the search engines. The WordPress would have it done for you. Really?

Well, just wait until my next post which I can resume that statement.
