Become an active [professional] blogger means that you need to put yourself in the internet with longer duration than before. At first I usually surf the web in internet shops which spreads enormously within the town. But, lately about 7 months ago, I felt that I couldn’t have the blogging activity seriously if I keep to did it there. You know, it just feel inefficient whenever ideas came to my thought and for the same time, I need to search some resource out there in the internet to craft the ideas into a better post.

Luckily, I have more than enough money at that time, so I quickly decided to invest them on my personal internet connection. I have already had my own PC lately and set up an internet connection through it would be a lot more than possible.

Choosing for an internet service provider would be a complicated process since I need to pick the most suitable from 10 providers with their various advantages. The option fell down on XL provider which offered 250 MB monthly quota and Rp 99.000,- monthly fee. Rp 400,- would be added in your bill for every megabytes I used whenever I reached the monthly limit. I think it’s enough for me to start the internet connection.

The next question was the medium to establish the internet connection: a modem. I started [again] to collect bunch of information about GPRS modems to suit the XL GSM based provider. Off course with the most affordable price.

So here I go. I bought a black Motorola L6 for Rp 870.000,-. Everything was ready until I realized that Motorola had never equipped its product with a driver installation CD. Great! I asked to the vendor and he forwarded me to the CD rentals which were abound [also] in this city. But then I found nothing than just a Cell Phone Manager program to connect my Motorola L6 to the computer. For instance, it helped a bit since I could transfer music and pictures down to the cell phone. But still, it was useless without the phone driver, so the computer could detect it as a modem, not just as a cell phone.

Okay, right to the story, I then found the driver modem upon the favor of my friend. He also used Motorola as a modem. A C380 series. It was a CD of mobile Phone Tools which was the original software for Motorola phones. Thank, God!

And so, I want to do a favor for those who need the Motorola modem driver, too. You can download the Motorola L6 modem driver here.

After you download the driver, make sure extract it somewhere in your computer since I packed it in a ZIP file. Connect your Motorola L6 phone by using a USB cable until the system tray shows you the pop-up message “Found Motorola L6 Modem”. You’ll meet the “Add New Hardware Wizard” dialog box then. Follow the instructions until you told to specify an exact location for the corresponding hardware, which is your Motorola L6 phone.

When your files are located, a dialog box will warn you whether to stop or continue the installation since the driver hasn’t digitally signed by Windows. Click “Continue Anyway”, Windows will start to copy the driver files into a specific location. As the process finished, your Motorola L6 phone will automatically turn its mode to Loud and start charging the battery.

That’s all. Next thing you should do is set up your internet connection through Start > Settings > Control Panel > Network Connections. Get yourself to the Files menu and choose New connection.. You’ll be guided with a step by step New Connection Wizard.

How many times have you ever stumbled on a scanned images with rotated position? Sometimes we cannot put the paper source on the scanner bed exactly on a straight position. Off course we can fix it manually with Adobe Photoshop. The most common way to do it is pressing ‘Ctrl + T’ and then rotating the bounding box until we feel that it has come to its proper straightness. Back then, we should drag a guideline from the ruler to help us look for the most straight position.

Maybe, you might never thought that there was easier and faster way to do that little work, until I explain it right now. No need to drag guidelines and manual positioning. Well, here’s the magic of the measure tool to enhance your works faster in straightening a rotated image.

You can find the measure tool inside the group of the eyedropper tool. Right click the eyedropper tool and you’ll find it on the bottom of the group. By using the measure tool, define the straight position for Photoshop, dragging from one point to another.

The next step is rolling to the “Image” menu, select “Rotate Canvas”, and choose “Arbitrary”. You’ll be provided by a dialogue box which have been filled with certain amount of degrees which you need to rotate the canvas. Don’t change the numbers, just click “OK”, and you’ll be out with result.

Your image will be straightened automatically. In a few clicks.

Do you know about acrobat files? Hell, kidding me! I’m not a “Back to the Future” thing from 1996 who jumped suddenly into the present time. This file platform have been massively used to present ideas and writings which are combined with graphic contents. If you use Microsoft Word, you can calculate how much bytes would you end up with 20 pictures inside!

And so, a great thanks for the inventors of this portable document files. This filetype supports the layout, thus we can enjoy a graphical newsletter which only occupy less than 2 megabytes in file size. I used to download manuals, tutorials, news, and articles in this format, and then read it with the acrobat reader software. But, instead of acrobat reader, there are other programs which also available to view the portable document files, such as Foxit Reader.

For months I used the Acrobat Reader to [just] view my PDF files collection. But then I found that my Acrobat Reader is more than just a reader. I can modify any of my PDF files by using its features. The first thing I loved to use is the PDF creator, which can be used to generate a PDF file from any source from Microsoft Office files to a web page.

Here what I used to do when I want to create a PDF file from a web page:

I just select the “Create PDF” icon from the upper taskbar which will float another 5 options of source:from file, from multiple files, from web page, from scanner, and from clipboard image. In this case, I will select the “from web page” which will preserve you a dialog box to set up the url address of a web page.

After you press the “Create” button, the Acrobat Reader would start to download the content and convert them into PDF pages. Don’t forget to save then.

Another trick to generate a pdf files from a web page is by using the print menu from the browser. In this case, we can generate the pages as we ‘print’ them into an Adobe PDF files instead on papers. Select the proper settings in the dialog box which appears as if you want to print a file in a common printer. Instead of loading papers into the printer, the dialog box will prompt you to provide a file name and the save location for the PDF file. After the process, Adobe Acrobat will automatically starts to view the file which has been created. That simple.

And today I’ve just know these another features from Acrobat Reader to modify my PDF files. [Hell, I'm feeling like that 1996 creatures! Huh...] I can delete pages from the file by using the menu Document > Pages > Delete or use the shortcut Shift+Ctrl+D. The other time, I can insert another source into my existing PDF file by using the Document > Pages > Insert or the shortcut Shift+Ctrl+I.

There are several tools which also helps me to clean up the ‘messy’ pages which I’ve created from a web page. We know that a web page contains frames and tables which could be a messy layout when we convert it into PDF pages. A missing link of css files could also drive the pages into mess. For this problem, I use the Advance Editing Tools to select the frames and trash it out from the page.

I think it’s enough for today to discover those Acrobat Reader’s features. There are several menus that I haven’t try yet. I’m sure to post it someday whenever it comes to me for a brand new knowledge.
